My love affair with Basset Hounds began over 15 years ago and has never slowed down. What started with one unforgettable hound became a lifelong commitment to the breed — to preserving what makes the Basset Hound so extraordinary: those soulful eyes, those impossibly long ears, and that deep, unwavering loyalty.
We are a family operation right here in Wylie, Texas. Our Basset Hounds are not kennel dogs — they live in our home, sleep on our couches, and grow up alongside our family every single day. It is the only way we know how to raise them, and we believe it's exactly why our puppies turn out so wonderfully.
We have spent years studying the AKC standard, investing in champion bloodlines, and building relationships with breeders across the country and abroad. Every decision we make is in service of the breed and the families who trust us.

From the day they are born until the day they leave for their forever home, our Basset Hounds live inside with us. They sleep in dog beds in our bedroom, follow us from room to room, and are sprawled out in the living room every evening.
This is not an accident — it is a deliberate choice. Puppies raised in a family home are socialized from day one. They learn the sounds of a household: the dishwasher, the television, the doorbell, children playing. They are comfortable with people, confident in new situations, and genuinely joyful.

Every dog in our program has been carefully selected for correct AKC Basset Hound conformation, outstanding health test results, and that unmistakable Basset personality — calm, loyal, and endlessly loving.
We study pedigrees deeply, visit other breeders, and only add dogs to our program that genuinely improve what we already have. Our breeding pairs are chosen thoughtfully — never casually.
The result is puppies that are structurally correct, genetically healthy, and an absolute joy to live with. That is the Carter Basset standard, and we never compromise it.
Our whelping suite is designed specifically for the comfort and safety of our mothers and their newborn puppies. Mama Bassets whelp in a private, temperature-controlled room off our main living area where they feel calm and secure, and where we can monitor them around the clock.
Our whelping boxes are spacious with pig rails to protect newborns, and are lined with soft bedding changed multiple times daily. As puppies grow, they graduate to a larger play area where they begin exploring, interacting with each other, and encountering the sights and sounds of our home.
We do not allow visitors with outside dogs on the property before puppies receive their first vaccinations — we take no chances with their health.
Our Wylie, Texas property gives our Basset Hounds the outdoor space they deserve. Adults enjoy a fully fenced yard where they can patrol the perimeter (as Bassets love to do), sun themselves on the patio, and engage in spirited group play.
Puppies are introduced to the outdoors in a controlled, fully supervised environment once they've received appropriate vaccinations. Texas soil carries environmental hazards, and we take every precaution to keep young puppies safe.
All outdoor time for our adult dogs is supervised — Basset Hounds are scent-driven and given the opportunity, they will follow a smell right out of your life. Safety is always our first priority.
Every breeding dog in our program is DNA health tested through PawPrint Genetics before they are ever bred. We believe responsible breeding begins with knowing exactly what you're working with genetically — and being completely transparent about it.
We test for every disease relevant to the Basset Hound breed and publish results openly. All certificates are available on request. If a dog tests as a carrier for any condition, they are retired from our program.
